Sheldrake Point Winery & Simply Red Bistro

The WinoTripping Review The Finger Lakes, NY

Posted by Rich

We were looking for a stop with the possibility of getting a late lunch, so we crossed over from Seneca Lake to Cayuga lake and headed straight to the beautiful lakeside location of the Sheldrake Point Vineyard, which includes the Simply Red Bistro. The Cafe, or Bistro, offers an outstanding menu for lunch. There are your simple cheese plates and pickled veggies. But also; gourmet sandwiches, comfort food plates like fried chicken or mac and cheese, steamed mussels, big salads... and all sourced from local outlets.

But first some wine. The tasting room in bright and comfortable, with a long bar along the far wall as you walk in. We bellied up to the bar and were treated to about seven wines, including a wonderful Gewurtz and nice, smokey Cabernet Franc. The also have a Pinot Noir that was much more earthy tasting than I would have expected. But the stand-out was the Gewurtz, for sure. The hosts at the bar were pleasant and all business, giving you the run down on each wine and keeping it moving.

The above photo shows the long bar in the tasting room. The decor is nothing fancy, but is bright and comfortable.
