Ragazza - The WT Review

Ragazza San Francisco

Just got back from a great meal at Ragazza (around the corner from the WT Headquarters and top secret TreeHouse location). If you get there when they open for dinner, in the five o'clock hour, you can avoid the usual hour-plus wait. We moseyed on in and sat right in the window and watched the place fill up while we sipped on our Barbera D'Asti, Damilano, Piedmonte 2009 ($10).

We started with a salad with Arugula, goat cheese, roasted beets & pistachios. Quite delish, (although I don't love beets... but Lady Jess said they were very good). Then we shared the Baked Rigatoni w/ Butternut Squash, brown butter, sage, fontina & amaretti crumbs ($12). Lightly browned and crispy on top and gooey fontina cheesy goodness beneath. We had also ordered a pizza, Marquita Farms Dandelion Greens with sweet Italian sausage, scallions and Val d'Aosta fontina ($16), which is probably enough to feed three, at least. Especially after a salad and Baked Rigatoni. The bitter dandelion greens played off the sweetness of the sausage, which in turn complimented the fontina cheese. Quite a mouth-gasim.

Ragazza San Francisco

The wine was medium bodied and fruit forward, for sure. Tart cranberries dominated the palate, but had a touch of minerality. It did real well with our meal. So much so that we'd probably recommend it as more of a food wine than to drink on its own on a Thursday night.

We like going to Ragazza for a special meal, relaxed atmosphere, and warm service. They just got the permits for the back patio, so we'll have to go back when it's not hailing outside, (as long as this isn't the end of the world as we know it). The end.

If you've been to Ragazza we'd love to hear about your meal.

Between the chicken parm, the burgundy and the meal at Ragazza...I'm hungry, thirsty and I miss SF.
