Hiking Marin with Washington Riesling
I'm always surprised about how many Bay Area people don't know about the great hiking up behind the town of Fairfax in Marin County. I love the hike around Lake Lagunitas. The reservoir provides everything you want out of a hike; redwood groves, rolling hills, Ospreys roaring overhead, sparkling lakes... You really don't need to bring anything. But you should bring some wine.
I went up to Fairfax this weekend with Lady Jess, my sister Jen, and her boyfriend Derek and we brought a bottle of Kung Fu Girl Riesling with some various cheeses. At some point during our hike we found a nice sunny spot on the shore of the lake. I've reviewed K Vintners Kung Fu Girl Riesling before, and I still find that it has just the right amount of sweetness and acid to make it delicious with even spicy cheese, but also crisp on its own. On this day, the day by the lake, it was downright idealistic. And the screw cap makes it a perfect picnic choice, and the cool label makes you look really hip.
We recommend drinking your wine toward the end of your hike, otherwise you might not make it back. Good times! And by the way, it'll cost $8 per car to get in to the park.
Cheers!
