TreeHouse Tasting No.27 - tercero 2008 Grenache Blanc

tercero wines 2008 grenache blanc

It was a sunny day in San Francisco and we'd just enjoyed a pleasant bike ride down to the beach and back. As we lied in a semi-napping state up in the TreeHouse, letting the breeze wash over us like the soft welcomed hands of a light massage, I thought, "hey, a nice glass of wine would be nice..."

This is my thought in many circumstances, but at this particular moment I was interested in a refreshing white wine. So I decided to go for one of the better bottles on the old rack. I pulled the tercero 2008 Grenache Blanc that I purchased at a winemaker tasting at the Winery Collective in San Francisco a few weeks ago.

tercero's Grenache Blanc is from the Camp 4 Vineyard in the warmer climates of the Santa Ynez Valley, between Santa Maria and Santa Barbara. Grenache Blanc isn't widely planted outside of Spain and France, but is a favorite of mine.

Anyway, I unscrewed the cap and poured the beautiful light yellow wine into our glasses and we were instantly hit with the aroma of ripe sour pear. On the palate, low acid and nice fresh crispness. The label says 13.5% ALC, and I was worried... but there is no burn, only balance and light asian pear flavors.

For under $20, this is a great value... as good or better than many whites over $20 we've had recently. We'll rate this wine at about 90 points. A great boutique winery find, thanks to the good folks at the Winery Collective.

Also look for tercero's 2008 "The Outlier" and the 2006 "Cuvee Christie" for great value and yummy goodness.
