Newsome-Harlow Wine Tasting Notes

This upscale-looking tasting room in downtown Murphys is a must stop for their outstanding wines.

I was impressed with the big courtyard with hip couches and chairs. The tasting room itself is pretty small, not too small. We were lucky enough to be the only folks tasting and got host Gretchen's full attention. She poured us four wines, plus a barrel tasting of a 2006 Syrah not officially bottled yet, (which was yummy).

We really enjoyed all the wines, and if we weren't already over our bottle limit for the day, would have bought one of everything. We scored all the wines 90 points and higher! Which is quite ridiculous, really. The standout was the 2006 Calaveras County Big John's Vineyard Zinfandel, one of the best Zins we tasted in Calaveras Country.

They recently added a kitchen to the tasting room, so keep an eye open for events featuring food prepared by resident chef Melanie Klann.
