Husch Vineyards Wine Tasting Notes
Husch was our first stop on Route 128, my introduction to tasting in Anderson Valley. I was excited as heck to try out a new wine country, and to see first hand where some of the best Pinot Noir is grown.
We got out of the car and I instantly spotted, and loved, the little tasting room in the rustic old pony barn. It was early, like just after 10am, and we could see that they were just opening up the joint... but we were greeted pleasantly by host Mike who was just coming out of the main house.
He set us up right away, telling us that we could choose six wines from a menu of about seventeen, which is totally fabulous. (see everything we tasted listed below).
Our favorites were the 2008 T-Bud Dry Cuvee Gewurztraminer, and the 2007 Old Vines Zinfandel Mendocino. As Mike, our host stated, this Zinfandel pairs well with dark chocolate and the couch. We agree! Very dark fruity, with rawhide flavors. Nicely balanced. Harvested from 60+ year old vines!
Out of the entire library, only about six Husch wines are available for sale outside the tasting room. So if you like something, get it while you're there.
Mike was very attentive and informative, (although we were the first, and only, people in the tasting room that morning). We noticed, but did not utilize, the cool spot for picnics under the grape arbors just outside the tasting room. But it's the cozy old barn and the good wines make Husch a WinoTripping recommends in Anderson Valley.
Wine Club:
Husch offers a wine club, or their "Priority Release Program" (PRP). Becoming a member of PRP will get you six bottles delivered twice a year to your home for about $106 per shipment (includes tax AND shipping!). What's that... like $17 or $18 bucks a bottle? That's not bad.
