Lazy Creek Vineyard Wine Tasting Notes

An absolutely magical setting AND award winning wines (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer and Riesling)? What more can you ask for?

We loved our visit to Lazy Creek even more than the lovely language on their website wanted us to. Just West of the town of Philo in Anderson Valley on Route 128, Lazy Creek's entrance is easy to miss. The only sign is an rustic metal cutout (pictured for your convenience), that could be mistaken for the sign of a ranch, or completely missed all together.

Once found, the long dirt road slowly and quietly led us past the moss-covered wooden fence and through the forest greenery and massive red woods. We felt as though we had entered a dream... completely relaxed and magical. The road finally opens up to the vineyard and tasting room in the old barn, (see photo).

The tasting room is big and bright, and opens up to the chicken house just behind it. Throughout our tasting chickens and roosters strutted past as if they were the proud winemakers. Our host, on the other hand, was friendly, laid back, and knew her stuff. I think she knew what the chickens knew but didn't need to strut... the wines spoke for themselves.

The wines are good across the board, with many tasty treats in the $18 - $25 range. We loved the Pinot Noir and the Gewurztraminer... big time. Love it!

Lazy Creek is one of the oldest winery in the area, and still one of the smallest. We think it's also the best stop in Anderson Valley. Don't miss it!
