Alpha Omega Winery Wine Tasting Notes

This dog-friendly winery was undergoing lots of construction when we visited in December 2007, but looks like it will be a nice joint once it's all done. Winemaker Jean Hoefliger, along with superstar wine consultant Michel Rolland, are lucky enough to use grapes from Hoefliger's six unique appellations in Napa Valley.

Currently, the tasting room is in a big open warehouse, and when we visited last it was equipt with a huge, loud industrial heater blowing hot air in our direction. It made it quite hard to hear our pourer, Richard, describe the wines we were tasting, although he was very nice, (and even gave us an extra pour; the 2006 Late harvest, which wasn't on the tasting menu). So, for a $10 tasting fee, we tasted five new releases, all well out of our price range:

What we tasted: 2005 Chardonnay Napa Valley ($38) Nose: pear and buttery taste: light and mild score: 3 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley ($56) Nose: port. cherry. taste: smooth. nice tannins. raspberry finish. score: 3.5 2004 Proprietary Red Wine Napa Valley ($64) Nose: light nose & color with and oak Taste: smoother than the cab. score: 4 2006 Rose ($26) Nose: sweet floral. Taste: heavy alcohol. not as sweet as the nose. Score: 2.5 2006 Late Havest Napa Valley ($78) Sauvignon Blanc & simmilion Nose: sweet onion grass Taste: sweet onion grassy Score: none

We could never afford to buy anything here, their Chardonnay is $38, and under it's current construction state, we'd have to give this winery a pass, at least until the construction is finished. It should be pretty nice, with a huge outdoor deck. The website gives a month-by-month progress report, so check back soon.
