Frank Family Vineyards Wine Tasting Notes
[Update: In August 2008, the old tasting room that we visited was demolished to make way for the grand opening of the new tasting room in the historic Craftsman bungalow on premises].
If you want to have a great time tasting, this is a stop you should make. This is not the prettiest tasting room, but the awesome staff make up for it.
We pulled into the unpaved parking lot behind the big, stone historic building, circa 1901, and entered the tasting room. There was a small group gathered around a cheerful fellow pouring sparkling wine into glasses and telling stories like he was entertaining at a informal get-together. The room itself was like one of those community rooms in the back of a church, or like a guy's rec room. Everyone was laughing and carrying on, and we entered the fray.
The room, it turns out, is the sparkling wine tasting room, our first stop before moving on to the still wine tasting room down the hall.
The still wine tasting room was booming, and the pourer was friendly and chatty. When most of the other tasters had left we stood and talk to him about the property, how they were restoring some of the old train tracks and buildings, and so on. I wish we had our notebook with us, because I don't remember all the details. But I can tell you that we had a great time and highly recommend Frank Family Vineyards.
The wines are produced in small runs, usually only available at the winery, and they sell out pretty regularly. The price per bottle is usually between $30 - $55, which is high in our book.
Call ahead for a free tour of their historic building, which is in the National Register of Historic Places.
