Sterling Vineyards Wine Tasting Notes

Up on a hill in Calistoga, overlooking the lush valley, is the spanish mission-style Sterling Vineyards. The big white structure can only be reached by visitors aboard the ski-lift gondola ride. This, and the killer views, are what draw many family (read: children), and limos.

There is a self-guided tour before you get to the tasting room, which is really nice because you don't need to schedule a big group tour. The wines are okay, not great, but the views and outdoor balcony are worth a trip if you're in the area. But this place is not your small family vineyard, but rather your big Napa Disney-style attraction. More like the kind of place you take your parents when they're in town... or stop there on your limo tour.

In October 2008, Sterling added two VIP tours and tastings. Instead of the self-guided tour, with a VIP tour you get a real tour guide who meets you upon arrival and sets up you with a private tasting of select wines.
