Vine Cliff Winery Wine Tasting Notes

We were staying in Calistoga when we met a rep for Vine Cliff at a private tasting event. An aspiring chef from Texas, she gave us the rundown of the Vine Cliff wines, (we tasted some good stuff), and some great suggestions for eating in and around Napa. She also gave us her card and invited us to make an appointment for a wine and food pairing and tour over at the Vine Cliff estate.

And what a beautiful estate it is! Up a winding driveway through the vineyard to a mansion-looking stone building directly across from the entranceway to the caves.

She set us up at a little table and served small plates with each wine we tried. All the wines were good, especially the 2005 Chard, and the 2004 Merlot. Their flagship wine is the Oakville Cab ($75), which we liked, too.

Then we took a short tour of the grounds, including the caves. There is a special room in the caves used for special events and private dinners.

The website also notes that "Vine Cliff's vineyards have been managed according to the principles and practices of sustainable viticulture."
