Lynmar Estate Wine Tasting Notes
Beautiful outdoor sit-down tasting with some of the best wines we tasted in the area. Elegant, but not snobby.
Off Highway 116 and onto Frei Road, the first winery you'll come upon is Lynmar Estate. This is what it's all about, a top-notch wine tasting experience. Maybe not as personal or as homey as one of the small family wineries, but top-notch in a way that makes this one of our "Must Stop" tasting rooms. When you pull up, the building looks a bit like a plain modern condominium, but once inside it's anything but plain. Wide open, with plenty of big leather chairs to lounge on. And on a nice day, like when we visited, one entire side opens up onto an elegant courtyard / patio and garden.
There are different tastings to choose from:
Estate $10
Reserve $20 (includes some small snacks)
Food and Wine $50
Or call ahead for a Two and a half hour Cultivation Class & Tour w/Food for $95 [Reservations: 707.829.3374 x102].
We signed up to share the Estate tasting, and were told to go find a seat outside. We strolled into the herb and vegetable garden and found a table with an umbrella. Several hosts were around to greet us and bring our glasses and tasting notes, (which are extremely thorough). Really good blues music played on the stereo, and we were very impressed with the wines. The cheapest wine on the Estate tasting menu, a Chardonnay, was $30, and the prices rose dramatically from there up to $60. But all the wines were of the highest quality. Looking at our tasting notes it is clear we liked the wines. One note reads: "On the nose, this wine makes me think of camping in a redwood forest on the coast." And once tasted it reads: "this is the essence of ridiculousness... if I had $60 I'd buy this right now".
