Marimar Estate Wine Tasting Notes
A spanish villa with spanish-style wines brought to you from the daughter of the Torres Family of Spain. The driveway up the hill featured two big metal dog statues, so we figured they must be dog-friendly. But we were only allowed in with our small dog because the winery dogs were not present.
We were greeted in a small office-like area by our host, Sarah, who gave us a quick rundown of the tastings available. $10 tasting fee for four wines, or a $25 tasting and tapas in the big main, spanish farmhouse room, with big wooden tables and giant black metal chandeliers. Sarah explained that they just started the tapas tasting a few weeks ago in order to offer "something different". Apparently, they took the tasting room out of that cool big main room and into what used to be an office, and unfortunately, thats what it feels like. The musak being pumped in only contributed to this stale feeling. It's really too bad, because the main room is really cool, and opens up onto a beautiful patio and courtyard that overlooks the vineyards from the top of the hill. So if you don't get the tapas tasting, you really feel like you get put in the back room, (quite literally).
We glanced at the tapas tasting menu and saw that four plates are paired with four different wines. There is an anchovy pate, cabbage dumplings, a fava bean stew, and finally a fig and chocolate loaf with chocolate sauce. Nothing vegetarian is offered, so we couldn't have done it anyway.
The daughter, and owner, has written about five or six cookbooks, which are all prominently displayed in the tasting room, from which all the tapas recipies are derived.
