Mayo Family Winery Wine Tasting Notes

Mayo has three tasting rooms in the Sonoma Valley, one in a co-op in the Lodge At Sonoma, one in the village of Kenwood, and the one we visited in the great little town of Glen Ellen. A modern, good-looking facility with a small, but comfortable, tasting room and a cozy courtyard.

We were greeted immediately and were lead through a tasting of six wines, (we shared one tasting - $6). We liked the unoaked Chardonnay, and really liked the Pinot Noir, even for $30 a bottle! I have a hard time with almost any Chardonnay, but this one let the fruit do the talking. The Pinot had great flavor and a delicate texture. Very nice.

We didn't do the Adventure Tasting ($12), but it's called that because they serve up some lesser known varietals like Barbara, Sangiovese, and Petite Verdot. We'll definitely hit that one next time.

The place is cool and will probably appeal to almost anybody you have with you - Some really nice wines for the winogeek, the Adventure Tasting for the easily-bored wino, and the shop that has the usual wine schwag that will appeal to your friend's drunk mom who's in town from New Jersey.

Overall, it's a relaxed tasting experience with friendly service, no pressure, and really good wines.
