Macari Winery Wine Tasting Notes

The setting of Macari Winery is idealistic, with rolling green lawns and vineyards, and a great looking manor house. The interior is very modern and minimalistic, without any of the usual clutter you find in tasting room/gift shops. I really liked that when I stand at the tasting bar I can look through a glass wall into the winemaking facility down below.

Kelly greeted us and set us up at the bar. The whites, she explained, are done in all steel, no oak... which made me rather happy. Thus, the Chardonnay was crisp and dry, with nice citrus. Much better than most of the buttery Napa Chards I taste.

Kelly was very nice and informative, and even had some great local restaurant recommendations for us. But there was a point that she seemed as though she may be in a rush, as she poured wine over the previous taste in one of our glasses. We were the only ones in the tasting room, so I think it was just a mistake... But she may do better to slow it down a bit.

The standout was the 2005 Estate Merlot, which was light, with nice tannins. And for only $19, a great value, too. We also really dug the 2008 Rose, with it's watermelon deliciousness.

There is also a large patio just off the tasting room, perfect for a picnic lunch, (see photo below).
